Before the event, it was learnt that Barrister Ijalaye had left the meeting and gone back to his hotel room.

The energetic administrator from Ondo who had been present at the commission meeting was also revealed to have retired to a hotel in the Federal Capital Territory prior to his passing.
Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, stated during the meeting in remarks that were placed on the commission's verified timeline on Facebook, focused on two off-cycle governorship elections in Edo and Ondo States, and seven vacant positions in the National and State Assemblies.
