Lagos shuts RCCG parish, hotels, businesses over environmental violations
Churches, hotels, restaurants, and other businesses have all been closed by the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency for violating the state's environmental laws.
As part of continuous efforts to address noise pollution and other environmental violations in Lagos, the enforcement activity was carried out in Mushin, Amuwo Odofin, and Okota Isolo.
LASEPA said in a statement posted on its verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday that the impacted businesses had disregarded environmental regulations in spite of warnings.
"LASEPA has sealed several establishments in various parts of Lagos in a decisive move to address noise pollution and other violations," the agency said.
"This demonstrates our dedication to establishing a more sustainable and healthful environment for all inhabitants."
Daily Bakery is one of the businesses that has been sealed, a Redeemed Christian Church of God, Gak Universal Allied Limited, Ideal Standard, Franjane Royal Suites, Golden Haven Resort & Suites, Festival Hotel Conference Centre & SPA, FS Service Centre, and Moulin Rouge Ventures at Olivia Mall.
Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, LASEPA’s General Manager, emphasized the agency’s strict enforcement of environmental standards to safeguard public health and foster community harmony.
“Environmental protection is a collective responsibility,” Dr. Ajayi stated. “As an agency, we are resolute in our efforts to enforce compliance with environmental laws. Infractions such as noise pollution and improper siting of hazardous facilities pose significant risks to public health and the quality of life in Lagos. Businesses and individuals must prioritize compliance and embrace sustainable practices.”
He further encouraged Lagos residents to report environmental violations via LASEPA’s official channels, stressing the importance of joint action to protect the environment.
