Meet Union Bank’s new CEO, Yetunde Oni

New executive directors were appointed by the financial regulatory body to oversee the operations of the deposit money banks, barely hours after the Central Bank of Nigeria dissolved the boards and managements of Union Bank of Nigeria, Keystone Bank, and Polaris Bank due to purported violations of corporate governance and regulatory noncompliance.

In a statement released on Thursday morning, Sidi Hakama, the acting director of corporate communications, stated that the appointment is effective immediately.

As per the statement, Union Bank has appointed Yetunde Oni as its Chief Executive Officer. She was the first female CEO of Standard Chartered Bank in Sierra Leone.

According to report, Yetunde Oni, who has over a decade of experience in the banking sector, is the new MD and CEO of Union Bank. She takes over for the bank's former CEO, Mudassir Amray.

1. The University of Ibadan awarded Yetunde Oni a degree in Economics in 1991.
2. In 2016, she completed Executive Training at Oxford University.
3. In 2020, she graduated with a Master of Business Administration from Bangor University.
4. Prime Merchant Bank Treasury & Money Markets Group was where she started her career.
5. She began working for Ecobank Nigeria in the Institutional Banking Group in 1994 as a Relationship Manager (1994 – 2005).
6. Yetunde Oni began working for Standard Chartered Bank Nigeria in January 2005, where she was assigned to the Local corporations division as a Senior Account Relationship Manager.
7. She was subsequently moved to the Apapa Branch, where she was tasked with leading the Wholesale Banking Branch and growing the Bank's local corporate portfolio in the Apapa and Ogun State areas.
8. Her position as Head of Local Corporates was created in May 2010.
9. She was named the Managing Director and Country Head of Standard Chartered Bank's Commercial Banking in West Africa in 2014. (2014 – Jan 2021).
10. In January 2021, she became the first female Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Bank in Sierra Leone, a role she held until receiving her managerial appointment with Union Bank.
