NBC Will Follow Due Process Under My Watch — New DG, Ebuebu

Charles Ebuebu, the newly appointed Director General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), has pledged to treat broadcast stations in the nation fairly.

The new NBC CEO said this in an exclusive interview with Channels Television on Monday following a meeting with Dr John Momoh, Chairman of Channels Media Group.

Following his appointment by President Bola Tinubu, Ebuebu took over as Director-General of NBC in October of last year. He pledged to lift any arbitrary sanctions imposed on media outlets in the nation, but he would not absolve defaulters of their persistent wrongdoings.

In order to support a sector that enables operators to prosper, he stated that the NBC Code will be revised.

"There are two sides to a coin: one is a coin," Ebuebu remarked.
According to Ebuebu, there are two sides to every story. On the one hand, there is a belief that the NBC has been applying sanctions excessively. We allegedly did not adhere to due process and other related procedures.

"I think the main lesson I learned is that the process has been random. We will definitely put together a clear approach, which is part of my legal background. I don't want to know specifics. Although things are still in the early stages, I can guarantee you that there will be a shift in public opinion. Things will become lot more open, allowing people to freely express themselves and defend themselves.

Based on the code, the problems will be examined. We are planning a code review to address that perception, and all comments will be welcomed.Conversely, it seems a little odd to have a police officer who is unable to impose a fine. Of course, I can discuss the case's validity or otherwise because it is pending in court.
