Nigeria gear up for 2025 U-19 Cricket W’Cup qualifiers
The Junior Female Yellow Greens, Nigeria's women's U-19 cricket team, have more time to train for the 2025 U-19 T20 World Cup Qualifiers because of the tournament's rescheduling in Kigali, Rwanda.
This is the second edition of the competition, which will take place in Malaysia from January 8 to February 2, 2025, with 16 teams participating.
The top four teams from the series were dropped to create another tier, although Nigeria was originally scheduled to compete in a two-group competition with seven teams in each group. This was due to Zimbabwe's late entry.
Junior Female Yellow Greens, based on their rankings, are now placed in Division 1 of the Africa Qualifiers, which began on Wednesday in Rwanda. In Division 2, seven countries (Botswana, Eswatini, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, and Sierra Leone) are competing against each other in a single round-robin format.
The strong field for Division 1, which will be played in Kigali, Rwanda, from 23 September to 29, consists of Nigeria, Namibia, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zimbabwe. The top two teams from the second division will join them for the championship match.
The second ticket for Africa to the tournament in Malaysia will be chosen by the winner of the Division 1 qualification.
They will be joined by New Zealand, the previous edition's hosts South Africa, and Samoa, a new participant, in Group C of the World Cup finals.
The Nigerian squad will be in Lagos to complete their preparations before leaving for Rwanda. They have been training at the Nigeria Cricket Federation's High Performance Centre in Benin City, Edo State.
