
NiMet predicts three-day thunderstorms, rain from Monday
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has predicted thunderstorms and rain from Monday to Wednesday across the country.
NiMet’s weather outlook, announced on Sunday in Abuja, foresaw morning thunderstorms on Monday over the northern area, with moderate precipitation expected over parts of Sokoto, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba States.
Later in the day, it predicts that portions of Bauchi, Borno, Kaduna, Kano, Jigawa, Taraba, and Adamawa States may get thunderstorms with moderate rainfall.
During the forecast period, the agency projected a high likelihood of flooding in areas of Katsina, Kebbi, Zamfara, and Sokoto States.
” For the Central Region, there are prospects of light rain over sections of Niger States throughout the morning session.
Over portions of the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa, Benue, and Kogi States, thunderstorms with light rain are predicted for the afternoon and evening hours.
It stated that during the forecast period, "there is a high possibility of flood occurring across areas of Plateau, Nasarawa, and Niger States."
Over the southern area, NiMet predicted cloudy skies with the possibility of light rainfall falling intermittently in sections of Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Ebonyi States in the morning.
Later in the day, it forecasted moderate rainfall over portions of the states of Akwa Ibom, Osun, Abia, Cross River, Rivers, Delta, Edo, Ebonyi, Ekiti, and Enugu.
It states that throughout the projected period, there is a high probability of flooding in areas of Delta, Imo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States.
“For Tuesday, morning thunderstorms with moderate rains are anticipated over parts of Yobe, Bauchi, Gombe, Taraba, Adamawa, Katsina and Kaduna States.
” Thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected over parts of Bauchi, Borno, Kano, Jigawa, Kaduna, Sokoto and Gombe States during the afternoon/evening hours,” it said.
Light rains were forecast by the agency for the morning over portions of the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Nasarawa, Plateau, Benue, and Kogi States in the central area.
Over portions of the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Benue, Kogi, Nasarawa, Plateau, and Kwara States, it predicted thunderstorms with light rain later in the day.
