NLC Starts Nationwide Protests Amidst Tight Security

The two days of planned statewide rallies by members of the Nigeria Labour Congress have begun to draw together across the nation.

As demonstrators vented their annoyance at the current state of suffering in the country, reports received by our journalists revealed a significant security presence in several states of the federation.

The Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), and the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), among other unions, have joined the Labour Congress, according to information obtained by our correspondent who was present at the scene of the protest in the Ikeja under the bridge area of Lagos State.

It is anticipated that the unions would lead the demonstration from the Ikeja confluence point to the State House of Assembly in Alausa.
In keeping with the Force's pledge to maintain law and order throughout the demonstrations, police officers were visible staffing each significant intersection along the three-kilometer route.

Hours after the Federal Government's futile last-ditch attempt to stop the NLC's two-day warning strike and nationwide demonstrations against the nation's economic suffering, the rally is taking place.
