Obaseki - EFCC plans to arrest me next week
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission intends to arrest Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki when his term concludes on November 14.
Speaking Thursday in Abuja at the EdoBEST National Results-Sharing Session, Obaseki disclosed that he was informed of the EFCC's intention to detain and arrest him for alleged fraud.
However, he claimed that he is not scared of being arrested or having his administration investigated, attributing the petitions against him to self-serving individuals.
Obaseki emphasised that he has nothing to conceal and stated that he would use his time in EFCC custody for research.
"I hear that after my tenure, the EFCC will pick me up next week," he claimed. I'll do some research wherever they take me.
Many of the things we have done fall under the category of legacy projects. Edo State has my faith. Focussing on the Edo people and topics that are important to them while enacting the required reforms is one of our lasting accomplishments.
Why should I be scared? I simply concentrated on my beliefs, and you can see the results of that today. I have no control over what occurs after that. They are free to keep up their political witch hunt and try anything to hurt me. Their issue is that.
"I'm not anxious or scared. They have written a variety of baseless petitions against me, and that’s part of the challenge. In fact, I can even turn myself in if they call me – I have nothing to hide.”
The governor accused his opponents of being envious of his achievements over the past eight years, stressing that he has left a legacy in the South-South state.
“You know how this country is. It’s filled with bitterness, vendettas, and wickedness. Those who have opposed me in Edo State are cruel, very wicked, and filled with jealousy and envy because they cannot match the accomplishments we’ve made in the past eight years.
But since there is so much suffering in Nigeria, it is crucial to concentrate on the people in order to improve the country. Since we have the opportunity to change things, let's concentrate on problems rather than personal grudges.
"One of the top priorities is bureaucratic reform. "We prioritised the people and civil servants," he continued.
