Obidient movement bigger than Peter Obi, Labour Party – Tanko
The Obidient Movement is larger than the Labour Party and its 2023 presidential flagbearer, Peter Obi, according to main spokesman Yunusa Tanko of the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organisation.
Speaking on Friday, Tanko stated that the Obidient movement should not be connected to any political party because it has its own identity in an interview with Channels Television's The Morning Brief.
According to Tanko, Obi's supporters, or Obidients, are simply concerned with good governance and have the right to oppose the party and its nominee if they don't align with their moral principles.
"It's bigger than the Labour Party," he declared. This is the case because it's an independent movement with a distinct personality. What piques their curiosity is good gpvernance.
"They have the right to challenge the Labour Party even if they are acting improperly. Permit me to continue. We would contest anything even His Excellency [Peter Obi] does that is not in line with good administration.
"They adhere to the teachings of good governance, and Peter Obi is a champion of that specific kind of good governance."
Remember how the LP just designated the Directorate of Obedient Affairs as a party directorate? This move sparked strong criticism.
Additionally, Obi disputed the directorate's name in a statement that was shared on his X page on Wednesday. He claimed that the Obidient movement transcends party, gender, and ethnic boundaries.
"Youth mobilisation directorates may exist in political parties, but the Obidient Movement is far beyond a particular political party. The Obidient Movement is a diverse and inclusive collective that transcends traditional political, religious, and ethnic affiliations.
"It is not headquartered in a specific region of the nation or domiciled within any particular party."
The party's spokesman, Obiorah Ifoh, announced in a statement on Thursday that the Obidient Directorate had been renamed the Directorate of Mobilisation and Integration in response to the criticism.
"The Directorate is hereby renamed the Directorate of Mobilisation and Integration, in the party, following the controversies arising from the creation of the Directorate of OBIDIENT Affairs," the announcement states.
The party's National Secretariat, located in Utako, Abuja, will host the inauguration on Saturday, June 8, 2024, by 10:00 a.m. The public and party members ought to pay attention.
