OOU innovates, gives transcripts, certificates at convocation
Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), located in Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, has made a groundbreaking announcement: starting with its 34th convocation, which starts this week and ends on Friday, January 31, students will take home not only their degree certificates but also their transcripts.
Professor Ayodeji Agboola, the university's vice chancellor, made this announcement during the press conference for the convocation on Thursday.
Along with the transcripts and commemorative plaques, Professor Agboola stated that the certificates were already signed and would be given to the graduates at the convocation ceremony.
He claims that 6,209 undergraduate students—including 5,793 regular and 416 part-time—will enrol for the 2023–2024 academic year, and that 741 postgraduate students—including 571 PGD/Masters and 170 PhD students—will receive diplomas and degrees.
There will be 115 students who graduate with First Class honours, which is 16.16 percent more than the 99 students who graduated in the 2022–2023 session.
3044 will graduate with Second Class honours (lower division); 688 will graduate with Third Class; and 1,845 will graduate with Second Class honours (upper division). 66 (unclassified) will graduate from the medical program, while 35 received a pass mark.
According to the VC, the highlight of the convocation program will be the Convocation Lecture, which will be given on Friday, January 31 by Arch Sunny Echono, executive secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, with the title "TETFund and Educational Development in Nigeria: the History, the Treasures, and the Future."
Speaking at the 2024 Data Science Nigeria (DSN) annual boot camp, Professor Agboola discussed the university's achievements in artificial intelligence, which led to OOU being named the "AI School of the Year," "including a star prize of $1000 worth of books."Top online courses
Additionally, two of our instructors were named joint winners of the first Google Academic Research Awards in 2024. A $60,000 research grant was part of the award, he continued.
With a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 4.87, Aisha Aanuoluwapo Dauda of the Department of Economics was named the overall best-graduating student.
