Police begin enforcement of tinted glass, siren regulations in Edo, Delta

The Zone Five Police Command has commenced the enforcement of regulations prohibiting the unauthorized use of sirens and tinted glass permits.

NAN reports that the Zone Five Command, situated in the South-South geopolitical zone, includes Edo and Delta states.

This information is provided in a statement by the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tijani Momoh, in Abuja.

The command indicated that this initiative aligns with the current laws and directives issued by IGP Kayode Egbetokun, which are applicable to all vehicles featuring tinted glass, regardless of whether they are factory-installed or not.

Momoh cited the Assistant Inspector-General of Police overseeing the zone, Salma-Dogo Garba, who stated that the enforcement will also extend to the ongoing prohibition against the unauthorized use of sirens.

Garba further noted that there will be rigorous enforcement regarding the use of revolving lights, Police SPY, unallocated official number plates, and unregistered vehicles.

“In light of the aforementioned, motorists who have not yet registered their vehicles with tinted glass are strongly encouraged to do so at www.possap.gov.ng.

“Thereafter, they should proceed to their state command headquarters for physical verification.

“Those who are not desirous of obtaining the tinted glass permit are advised to remove such tints or replace the factory-fitted glasses with transparent ones, as legally provided by the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act 2004.”

The AIG cautioned field operatives and their supervising officers to ensure that the exercise is conducted with the highest level of professionalism, free from any harassment or extortion of motorists.

He emphasized that any officer who fails to comply will face appropriate sanctions, and the relevant supervisory officer will be held accountable.

Garba additionally encouraged motorists to collaborate with the Police during the exercise to promote public safety and national security.

He also urged residents to immediately report any instances of harassment, extortion, or other unprofessional behavior to the nearest police station, the commands CRUs, or the ZPPRO.

NAN reports that the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has declared that the strict enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit requirement will commence throughout Nigeria on Thursday.

This directive is issued under the authority of the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act, 2004, a legislation aimed at enhancing security and reducing criminal activities.

According to the new regulation, all vehicles with tinted windows must possess valid and verifiable permit documents, which should be presented upon request by law enforcement.
