Probe rising insecurity, Kwankwaso urges FG
Former Kano Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has urged the Federal Government to promptly investigate the escalating insecurity in Nigeria, pointing to a new surge of mass kidnappings and bandit assaults.
In a statement released on Wednesday through his verified X account, Kwankwaso condemned the kidnapping of 25 schoolgirls from the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State, which took place early on Monday when gunmen invaded the school on motorcycles and engaged in a shootout with security personnel.
He also highlighted the murder of Brigadier Gen. Musa Uba in Borno State, labeling the event a “dark mark” in the nation’s counter-terrorism efforts and calling for a comprehensive investigation into security and intelligence shortcomings.
Kwankwaso also expressed his sorrow over the mass kidnappings in Zamfara State, describing the situation as “truly heartbreaking,” and urged authorities to act swiftly to rescue the kidnapped individuals.
He pointed out that the recent bandit attacks in the Shanono and Tsanyawa LGAs of Kano State also demand immediate attention.
While he commended the Kano State government for providing vehicles to security forces, he emphasized that further actions are necessary.
He remarked, “These regions have experienced ongoing violence; in a recent incident, bandits killed three villagers after crossing over from Katsina State.
“In another raid, two nursing mothers were kidnapped from the Faruruwa community in Shanono, heightening fear among residents.
“These incidents are not isolated. They reveal serious setbacks in the battle against insecurity,” Kwankwaso said, urging a renewed and robust federal response.
He called on the government to reinvigorate the armed forces and empower the Nigeria Police Force to fulfil their responsibility of protecting citizens and restoring national confidence.
On Monday, armed bandits attacked Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area, abducted at least 25 students and killed the Vice Principal.
The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed that 25 students were abducted from the school.
