TASUED to graduate 27 first class students, first set of PhD holders
At the 16th convocation of Tai Solarin University of Education in Ijagun, Ogun State, 27 First Class students will be graduated out of 4,140 total.
During a press conference held on Friday to begin preparations for the event, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Wole Banjo made this announcement.
The graduation of the university's first group of doctorate degree holders, including an 85-year-old retired military colonel named Pa Bolaji Onafowokan, who stands out among the graduands due to his tenacity and resolve, will also mark a milestone, Banjo disclosed.
Out of the 401 postgraduate students, 279 will graduate with master's degrees, 55 will acquire postgraduate diplomas in education and other subjects, and 67 will be awarded PhDs.
Talking about the distinctiveness of the convocation, Banjo said, “This 16th convocation is special to us as it marks the graduation of our first set of PhD holders. Among them is 85-year-old retired Colonel Bolaji Onafowokan, who serves as a testament to determination and lifelong learning.”
Highlighting the university’s strides in infrastructure, Banjo announced that Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, will commission several key projects during the ceremony.
The Vice-Chancellor explained the power plant's importance and stated it will address the institution's long-standing electricity issues.
Banjo also praised Ogun State Commissioner of Police Abiodun Alamutu and Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun for deploying special patrol teams to improve security in the university and the surrounding towns.
Dr. Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communication, Innovations, and Digital Economy, will give the convocation address with the theme "From Classroom to Cloud: Leveraging Digital Literacy for National Development."
