Teenager stabs friend to death during fight in Ogun
The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended a teenager named Olamide Phillips, who is accused of fatally stabbing his friend, Moses Odeh, during a confrontation on Obalende Street in the Isara region of the state.
This incident transpired at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Sunday at the residence of their parents within the community.
Chief Superintendent of Police Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the command, confirmed the arrest of the suspect on Tuesday.
Odutola noted that the parents of both Phillips and Odeh were acquaintances.
It has been reported that Phillips’ mother informed Odeh’s father, Osapa, that her son had taken N5,000 from her bank account.
While the exact reason for the altercation between the two friends remains uncertain, Odutola indicated that the conflict escalated when Odeh entered the scene as his father was admonishing Phillips.
Despite attempts by the parents to intervene, the police spokesperson revealed that Phillips seized an object and stabbed Odeh in the abdomen, leading to the victim's death on Monday at the hospital where he was taken for treatment.
Odutola stated, “Odeh was transported to Kings Hospital for medical care, but he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of Monday, March 3.
“The body of the deceased has been sent to the General Hospital in Isara for an autopsy, while the suspect is currently in custody.”
She further disclosed that following Odeh’s death, police officers from the Isara Division initiated a search for Phillips, ultimately apprehending him in Ipara Remo, a nearby community, where he had sought refuge.
Odutola added that the case will be forwarded to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in Abeokuta for further inquiry.
