Tenant stabs landlord in Rivers - Police
Men of the Rivers State Police Command have arrested a middle-aged man, Patrick Essien, for allegedly stabbing his landlord in Rumuiprikon, the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state on Monday.
Trouble started when the landlord identified as Iheanyichukwu America went to rescue Essien’s wife from him when she was allegedly being manhandled.
The landlord’s wife, Chioma, who narrated the incident on Tuesday, said, “He (Essien) tried to drag the wife to go inside with him but my husband said he would not allow him and that he would not allow the woman to sleep in their house because of the situation.
“My husband insisted that the woman would sleep in his family house and in the morning, we would know what to do. So he moved the woman out of their house.
“Then around midnight, the man came to attack my husband in the process of coming to check if his wife was in our house, but she was not there.”
Similarly, the landlord’s elder sister, Gladys Bardey, described the tenant’s action as an attempted murder.
She demanded that the matter be charged to court for her brother to get justice.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident, saying the suspect (Essien) had been arrested.
Iringe-Koko, a Superintendent of Police also said the landlord was receiving medical attention in the hospital.
“We are aware of the matter. The suspect has been arrested and he is in our custody. An investigation is still ongoing,” she said.
