According to the 2024 Times Higher Education (THE) Rankings, Covenant University (CU), a private university in Nigeria, is the best university in the nation.

Every year, Times Higher Education publishes the coveted global rating, which assesses colleges all across the world.

THE evaluated 1,907 universities from 108 nations and regions for the 2024 edition using 18 performance metrics. These metrics assessed an institution's performance in areas like instruction, the atmosphere for research, the calibre of the research, industry involvement, and global perspective.

Over 134 million citations from 16.5 million academic papers and survey responses from 68,402 experts worldwide were analysed for the 2024 ranking. Furthermore, from 2,673 institutions that submitted data for review, 411,789 data points were gathered.

Globally, the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom has held the top spot for nine years running, which is the longest reign in the history of THE Rankings. This beat Harvard University's eight-year lead, which ended in 2011. Stanford University (US) has risen to the second rank, while Harvard has fallen to the fourth. The University of Cambridge (UK) has dropped to fifth place in 2024 after sharing the third spot a year earlier.
