Trump unveils $5m ‘gold card’ for affluent Nigerian migrants, others

U.S. President Donald Trump has introduced the inaugural "gold card," a residency permit that will be available for purchase at a price of $5 million each.

This high-value visa serves as an alternative to the conventional green card, with the intention of attracting affluent investors and entrepreneurs to the United States.

While holding a prototype adorned with his image and the label “The Trump Card,” the Republican president conveyed his excitement about the initiative. “I’m the first buyer,” he remarked to the press. “Pretty thrilling, isn’t it?”

Trump indicated that the special visa could be accessible “in less than two weeks.”

He has previously claimed that the funds generated from this program could contribute to reducing the U.S. national deficit.

The billionaire former real estate mogul, who has focused on the deportation of millions of undocumented immigrants during his second term, highlighted that the new card would provide a route to U.S. citizenship for those who can afford it.

In February, Trump mentioned that his administration aimed to sell “perhaps a million” of these cards.

When questioned about potential buyers, he did not exclude Russian oligarchs from consideration.

This announcement signifies a notable change in U.S. immigration policy, prioritizing wealth-based residency options amidst ongoing discussions regarding border security and legal migration avenues.
