U.S ‘accidentally’ cut Ebola prevention funding – Elon Musk

Tech billionaire Elon Musk on Thursday disclosed that the United States government inadvertently curtailed Ebola virus prevention endeavors.

Musk informed a United States Cabinet meeting that the Department of Government Efficiency had committed errors while it reduced jobs and programs in recent weeks.

“We shall not attain perfection, but when an error is made, we shall rectify it expeditiously. ”

Musk, who is neither a Cabinet member nor an elected official, indicated that one such error was the “accidental” cancellation of Ebola prevention while diminishing the budget of the US development aid agency USAID.

“I believe we all desire Ebola prevention. Therefore, we reinstated the Ebola prevention efforts immediately, and there was no disruption,” Musk stated.

“However, it is imperative that we act swiftly if we are to accomplish a trillion-dollar deficit reduction in fiscal year 2026.

“It necessitates saving 4 billion dollars each day, every single day, from now until the conclusion of September,” he added. “Yet, we are capable of achieving this, and we shall. ”

Ebola is a communicable and life-threatening infectious ailment. The virus spreads through physical contact and exposure to bodily fluids.

USAID stands as one of the largest aid agencies globally, employing approximately 10,000 personnel, two-thirds of whom operate outside of the United States.

It is tasked with distributing a significant portion of the US government’s humanitarian assistance to developing nations and countries in crisis.

The administration of US President Donald Trump has effectively dismantled the agency, placing nearly all staff on indefinite leave.

Trump has suspended the agency’s funding since January pending an internal review, which has affected numerous initiatives worldwide.
