UniAbuja appoints 41-year-old Aisha Maikudi acting VC

Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi has been chosen by the University of Abuja (UniAbuja) Senate to serve as the institution's acting vice chancellor until the University Council is sworn in and a permanent vice chancellor is appointed.

In a statement, departing Vice Chancellor Prof. Abdul-Rasheed stated that her appointment was made after her nomination at the concluding Senate meeting on Wednesday.

During her acceptance speech, Maikudi expressed her gratitude to the Senate for their trust in her.

"I want to express my sincere respect and gratitude to each and every one of you for the strong support and unwavering commitment that you have shown me," she stated.

Deputy Vice Chancellor of Academics at the institution currently holds the position of Maikudi, a Professor of International Law.

Born in Zaria, Kaduna State, on January 31, 1983, she passed the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
Following her secondary school education, she studied at the University of Reading and the London School of Economics in the United Kingdom, where she earned degrees in both bachelor's and master's of laws (LLB and LLM, respectively). She also attended the University of Abuja to earn her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Law and the Nigeria Law School in Abuja to prepare for the bar.
In 2007, Aisha served in the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation's (NNPC) Corporate Secretariat and Legal Division as a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

Aisha started out as a lecturer at the University of Abuja in 2008. She went on to become the department's first female head and the youngest dean of the faculty in 2014, the department's first female director in 2018, and the university's first female director in 2018.
The acting vice-chancellor is the first female professor of law in the North West and at the University of Abuja. She is also the youngest professor at the university and in all of Nigeria. She has written significantly in the field of United Nations Law, which is her area of expertise.

She has supervised several undergraduate and graduate projects and finished a postgraduate course in UN law. She is knowledgeable about the workings of company law, having taught it for more than 12 years. She has participated in numerous conferences and trainings worldwide.
In addition, she belongs to a number of professional bodies, such as the International Federation of Women Lawyers (IFWL), the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), and the Nigerian Law Teachers Association (NLTA).
