World Health Day: First Lady, Remi Tinubu canvasses health equity for Nigerians
First lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on her countrymen to support the fight for "Health for All," emphasising that ensuring that everyone has fair access to high-quality healthcare is still a major obstacle.
She mentioned this in her Sunday address in honour of World Health Day in 2024.
She said that Nigeria has made great strides in the healthcare industry and applauded the devotion and hard work of the country's medical professionals for steadfastly assisting the country through many emergencies, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the Ebola outbreak.
The theme of this year's World Health Day is "Health for All, Health Equity," according to the News Agency of Nigeria.
The World Health Organisation observes this day globally to recognise and increase awareness of global health challenges and to emphasise the significance of well-being.
"Today, as we observe World Healthcare Day, the theme 'Health for All: Health Equity' resonates deeply," said the First Lady. It serves as a reminder that access to healthcare is a basic human right, not an entitlement.
Even though Nigeria's healthcare system has seen tremendous advancements, there is still a huge difficulty with the gap in health equity, and we must all work together to overcome it.
"We live in a world where socioeconomic diversity creates disparities in health outcomes by limiting access to high-quality healthcare delivery services."
"I commend all of our healthcare workers for their dedication and commitment to service," she said, applauding the efforts of other stakeholders.
Nigeria has survived numerous calamities, such as COVID-19 and Ebola, thanks to the unwavering devotion and hard work of our healthcare professionals.
Mrs. Tinubu remarked, "I commend you and say a big thank you to you all."
In order to actualize "Health for All" in the nation, she urged all well-meaning Nigerians, organisations, and bodies to join the endeavour.
