Algiers-Abuja direct flights commence April 6

On Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the initiation of Air Algérie’s first direct flight service from Algiers to Abuja, which is set to commence on April 6, 2025.

This development is anticipated to enhance the diplomatic and economic relationships between Nigeria and Algeria.

A statement issued by the Acting Spokesperson for the Ministry, Kimiebi Ebienfa, indicated that this new route, established under the Bilateral Air Services Agreement between the two nations, will be operated by Air Algérie using a Boeing 737 aircraft.

The introduction of this service is expected to improve connectivity, promote tourism, and facilitate trade and investment between Nigeria and Algeria.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is delighted to announce the launch of Air Algérie’s inaugural direct flight service from Algiers to Abuja, scheduled for April 6, 2025.

“This landmark event signifies a crucial advancement in the evolving diplomatic and economic ties between Nigeria and Algeria.

“It is important to note that this achievement is a direct result of the implementation of the Bilateral Air Services Agreement between the two countries,” the statement partially read.

The ministry also commended the Nigerian Embassy in Algiers for its significant contributions in bringing this flight to fruition.

The inaugural flight is expected to transport the Charge d’Affaires of the Nigerian Embassy in Algiers, leaders from the Nigerian community, and officials from the Algerian government.

The Federal Government has congratulated Air Algérie and pledged its full support to ensure the success of this new service.

With competitive fares and Algeria’s proximity to Europe, this flight provides Nigerians with a convenient access point to Europe, further solidifying Nigeria’s role as a regional hub for business, tourism, and transit.

The statement expressed, "The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the appropriate aviation authorities, extends its heartfelt congratulations to Air Algerie and pledges all necessary support to ensure the success and sustainability of this new service.

"We are confident that this initiative will further solidify the enduring friendship between Nigeria and Algeria, while creating new avenues for mutual development.
