2027: I am adequately equipped to lead Nigeria — Peter Obi

The Labour Party's 2023 presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has asserted that he is better equipped to address Nigeria's economic and security issues if given the opportunity.

He claimed that none of the individuals currently vying for the 2027 presidential election can claim to have initiated, managed, and expanded a small business into a large corporation as he has.

Obi made this statement while responding to inquiries from a diverse group of Nigerians during an interactive X Space session yesterday.

He elaborated that resolving the economic situation would significantly contribute to alleviating Nigeria's security problems, as the two are interconnected.

The former governor of Anambra State remarked: “I possess the knowledge to transform Nigeria. I established my business from the ground up and have more experience than any other candidate, including the current President. I am well-versed in finance and understand how to manage it effectively.”

He emphasized that under his leadership, small businesses and manufacturers would prosper, as he would prioritize their growth, highlighting their role as economic engines in developed nations.

The former LP presidential candidate refuted rumors suggesting that he was joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition to serve as a running mate to a presidential aspirant.

He affirmed, “I will be on the ballot in 2027.”

Obi urged his supporters to refrain from engaging in violence or exchanging insults with his adversaries, even when provoked.

He made this appeal in response to an “Obidient” from Akwa Ibom State, who expressed concerns about the insults and name-calling directed at him by certain leaders of the ADC Coalition.

Obi informed the audience that he fully endorses the coalition, having been involved since its inception.

He said: “None of us can predict tomorrow. Let us enter the coalition with an open mind. We can’t solve the problems of Nigeria by bullying. We can solve it with putting the right people to manage our affairs.

“Tomorrow is dynamic, we are going to work with other people in the coalition.”

While stressing that personal insults and name calling had no effect on his resolve to offer himself for service, Obi said: “All the insults do not bother me. If calling me stupid or idiot will solve Nigeria’s problems, I’m ready to go to court and change my name to ‘Obi Stupid.”

He also admonished his supporters to counter falsehoods with the truth and “pray for those who abuse us. Engage our opponents in healthy debates and help them understand our position.”
