Cancel your homecoming, police warn Natasha

The police have urged Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to call off her scheduled Sallah rally in the Central Senatorial District of Kogi State.

This request was made by Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP William Aya.

The statement indicated that Dantawaye emphasized that the rally contravenes the recent prohibition on political gatherings imposed by the state government, which was announced on Monday.

The statement noted, “In light of intelligence reports concerning security threats in Kogi State and the subsequent ban on all forms of rallies and processions by the Kogi State Government, the Nigeria Police Force, Kogi State Police Command, has urged the organizers of the planned rally in Okene to cancel the event to maintain peace in Kogi State.

“The necessity for cancellation arises from intelligence suggesting that certain individuals intend to disrupt the event and disturb the peace in the State. The Command cannot risk compromising the tranquility currently enjoyed in the State.”

The police further cautioned against any attempts to disregard this directive, stating, “Given the security threats associated with the planned rally, the Kogi State Police Command advises the organizers to cancel the event to prevent any potential breakdown of law and order in the State. The Command will not hesitate to enforce the law against anyone who disrupts peace and order in the State.”

Despite the prohibition on political gatherings announced on Monday, Akpoti-Uduaghan has maintained her intention to proceed with her “homecoming,” asserting that her return to the state is solely to celebrate Eid-el-Fitr with her constituents.
