Hunger protest: No bad governance in Nigeria, says Tinubu’s aide

On Tuesday, Tunde Rahman, the Senior Presidential Media Aide, declared that Nigeria does not have poor administration.

Rahman made this statement at the Radisson Blu, Ikeja, Lagos, at the Second Lateef Jakande Annual Memorial Lecture.

"I don't think there is any bad governance here, despite the protest being tagged 'End Bad Governance,'"

He addressed the mostly editorialised audience of media professionals and editors, saying, "I've seen headlines like 'Hardship Protest' and 'Hunger Protest,' and I think those (headlines) are editorialised."
He went on to say that the protest planners for August 1, 2024, "are faceless."

The Nigerian Guild of Editors' event attendees had differing opinions in response to Rahman's remarks.

He asked Nigerians to be patient with President Bola Tinubu as he dealt with the economic issues facing the nation.
One of the groups planning the nationwide demonstration that is set to take place on Thursday, the Take It Back Movement, has declared that it will go forward.
Security services have responded by deploying officers throughout states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, including the police, military, and civil defence, to provide security during the scheduled protests.

On X, the hashtag "EndBadGovernanceInNigeria" is still popular as Nigerians watch Thursday's developments.

Joseph Adeyeye, the managing director of PUNCH Nigeria Limited, is also scheduled to speak at the function with the topic "Media Survival Strategies: Rapidly Changing Media Landscape."
