Ministerial nominees submit documents as Senate holds screening today
In preparation for the Senate's screening and confirmation procedure, which is scheduled to start today (Tuesday), ministerial nominees have started the documentation process.
Basheer Lado, the Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters, made this announcement on Monday night.
"As the first step in the series of procedures for the screening and confirmation of ministerial nominees, nominees were already submitting pertinent documents," Lado stated.
"The Senate is expected to screen and confirm the nominees in accordance with Section 147 of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as Amended) Constitution."
Last Thursday, President Bola Tinubu formally requested that seven ministry nominees be screened and confirmed by the Senate.
In a letter to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, the President made the request, and it was read at the beginning of Thursday's session.
Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi as Minister of Labour and Employment; Bianca Odinaka Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Minister of State, Foreign Affairs; Dr. Jumoke Oduwole as Minister of Industry, Trade and Development; Idi Muktar Maiha as Minister of Livestock Development; Yusuf Abdullahi Ata as Minister of State, Housing; and Dr. Suwaiba Said Ahmad as Minister of State, Education are the nominees mentioned in the President's letter.
President Tinubu asked the Senate to give the nominations prompt consideration in his letter.
After that, Akpabio forwarded the appeal to the Committee of the Whole for immediate deliberation.
This came after the president recently reorganised his government.
Five ministers lost their jobs as a result of the process. They were Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo (State, Housing and Urban Development); Jamila Bio Ibrahim (Youth); Prof. Tahir Mamman (Education); Lola Ade-John (Tourism); and Uju-Ken Ohanenye (Women Affairs).
