AFCON 2025: 4 Super Eagles players risk suspension ahead Uganda game
Four crucial players from the Super Eagles are on the verge of suspension as Nigeria prepares for its final Group C match against Uganda.
Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Semi Ajayi, and goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali are all just one yellow card away from being sidelined for the Round of 16.
Osimhen, who is Nigeria’s key striker, risks missing the game if he receives a caution on Tuesday, which may compel coach Eric Chelle to field Paul Onuachu in his stead.
Ademola Lookman, who has netted goals in both of Nigeria’s AFCON matches thus far, is also at risk of suspension.
The yellow card situation for Semi Ajayi might lead Chelle to consider Zaidu Sanusi for the full-back position, while Nwabali, who was cautioned for time-wasting against Tunisia, could be substituted by Francis Uzoho should he receive another yellow card.
A victory against Uganda would secure a flawless nine points for the Super Eagles in the group stage, following their earlier wins against Tanzania (2-1) and Tunisia (3-2), thereby confirming their advancement to the knockout stage.
