FG Removes Mathematics as Admission Requirement for Art Students
The Ministry of Education has declared that credit in mathematics will no longer be a prerequisite for students aiming for admission into arts and humanities programs in universities and polytechnics.
The announcement, made on Tuesday in Abuja by the Ministry’s spokesperson, Folasade Boriowo, signifies a departure from the traditional requirement where candidates for arts and humanities were expected to possess five credit passes, including mathematics and English, to secure entry into higher education institutions.
Boriowo stated that the updated National Guidelines for Entry Requirements into Nigerian Tertiary Institutions aim to eliminate unnecessary obstacles while upholding academic standards. Nigerian travel packages
This new policy is applicable to all universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and Innovation Enterprise Academies.
Mathematics will still be compulsory solely for science, technology, and specific social science courses, whereas English remains a mandatory requirement for all programs.
The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, characterized the reform as a strategic initiative to expand access to tertiary education and provide more opportunities for students to engage in arts and humanities fields.
