[UPDATED] CAF Awards 2023: Osimhen wins Men’s Player of The Year

The CAF 2023 Men's Player of the Year competition has been won by Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen.

He defeated rivals like Mohamed Salah of Egypt, Senegal's Sadio Mane, and Morocco's Achraf Hakimi.

The 1.85-meter-tall 24-year-old has undoubtedly stood tall among his contemporaries. The Super Eagles legend Kanu Nwankwo last won the award in 1999, so it has been a long 24 years since then.

The striker from Nigeria had a fantastic season in the most recent 2022–2023 football season. Thirty-three years after the passing of the legendary Argentine player Diego Maradona, he assisted his Italian club Napoli in winning their third Scudetto.
Osimhen became the first African to win the top scorer title in the domestic Serie A league with 26 goals scored during the season.

The Neapolitans took a special interest in him after he was named to the Serie A Team of the Year and went on to win the Italian league's best striker award.

With his historic award on Monday in the Moroccan city of Marakesh, the "Nigerian Prince" has unquestionably solidified his status as one of the greatest players in Africa, if not the entire world.
